| MANILA,
Philippines (AP) At least 11 schoolchildren were buried
by a landslide as they walked home from school in the northern
Philippines and were feared dead Friday, officials said.
Eroded
soil on two adjacent mountains cascaded down into a river
valley Wednesday in Kabugao in Apayao province, burying
the group of children and injuring three others, the Office
of Civil Defense said.
Search
teams were still digging for the victims Friday, the disaster
office said.
The
landslide also blocked the river and stopped the flow of
water, it said.
The
Cordillera Disaster Coordinating Council said rains from
two typhoons that hit the northern Philippines recently
may have eroded the mountainsides, causing the landslide.
