Quake Hits Behbahan, Khuzestan Province

Behbahan, Khuzestan Prov. (IRNA) -- An earthquake measuring 4.2 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale hit the city of Behbahan, in this southwestern province at 07:26 hours local time (03:56 GMT) Saturday.

Head of the seismological base of Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, Nasrollah Kamalian told IRNA that earthquakes with such intensities cause cracks in walls and ceilings of old buildings.

No report has yet been received on possible loss of life or damage to property as a result of the quake.

The southern part of the city of Behbahan is a quake prone area, Kamalian added.
