CDC: Worst Of Flu Season Over...01/28/00

ATLANTA (AP) - Winter is far from over, but the government reported Thursday that the worst of the flu season appears to have passed. "There's a possibility that, in some regions of the country, influenza may not have peaked yet," said Dr. Tim Uyeki of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "But for the majority of the country, influenza appears to have peaked." The CDC said it concluded the flu season is waning because fewer people are testing positive for flu virus and doctors report seeing fewer patients with flu-like symptoms. At the flu season's peak, the last week of 1999, doctors reported that 6% of their patients that week had flu-like symptoms. Two weeks later, it had dropped to 4%.
