BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Snow drifts and freezing temperatures continue to paralyze and isolate villages in Romania, where seven people died Tuesday, raising the death toll in recent snow storms to 14. In neighboring Bulgaria, army units were dispatched to rescue trapped citizens. Large parts of central and eastern Europe have been hit by abundant snowfalls and cold weather, causing casualties and traffic chaos. Among the dead in Romania was a 5-month-old boy suffering from the flu whose parents were unable to make their way to a hospital because high snow drifts surrounded their village of Lisa, northwest of Bucharest. A helicopter from a nearby military garrison was called for help but could not take off because of strong winds and blizzards.
