TOKYO (AP) -- A moderate earthquake shook Japan's ancient capital of Kyoto early Sunday.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, police said.
The 4.3 magnitude tremor, which hit at 12:03 a.m., was centered about 12 miles underground in southern Kyoto, the Central Meteorological Agency said.
Kyoto is a city about 230 miles southwest of Tokyo.
The agency said there were no dangers of tsunami, or tidal waves set off by earthquakes.
A magnitude 4 quake can cause moderate damage.
