PARIS (AP) - Five people were killed and one was seriously injured Wednesday after a group of skiers was caught in an avalanche in the Hautes-Alpes region of southeastern France, police said. One other skier was unhurt when the avalanche buried the group of seven skiers above the Prapic ski station. The uninjured skier managed to alert rescue services who later found five bodies. All of the victims were adults from the surrounding area. The avalanche risk in the area was rated three Wednesday on a scale of five. Snow has been falling heavily in the French Alps in recent weeks, making avalanches more likely.
