Boy Scouts Converge In Quebec For Y2K...12/29/99
QUEBEC (AP) - For 2,500 Boy Scouts from across the globe, the millennium will come on a cold, snowy night in the Canadian wilderness. Scouts from 50 countries have come to Quebec City for a 10-day winter weather jamboree, called Snow Jam. The boys, aged 14 to 18, will sleep in 60 large, heated tents equipped with floorboards, but will need to wear winter clothing outside in Quebec's subfreezing temperatures. It will be a different experience for the six boys coming from Malaysia, said group leader Chu Yoon Chung, who saw snow for his first time when he stepped off the plane after a 21-hour journey. Scout outings in the Southeast Asian country usually involve cutting a bamboo shelter and sleeping on the ground by a campfire, he said.
