Iraq Wants To View Solar Eclipse...08/03/99

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraq reportedly has asked Secretary-General Kofi Annan to persuade the U.S. and Britain to halt overflights Aug. 11 to enable Iraqis to peacefully observe the last total solar eclipse of the millennium. Iraq's northern city of Mosul will be among the best placed areas to view the eclipse, the magazine Nabed al-Shebab said Monday. Certain parts of Mosul, 250 miles north of Baghdad, are expected to be in total darkness for up to two minutes, the magazine said. The area around Mosul has been repeatedly targeted by allied planes patrolling the northern no-fly zone in Iraq
