Tonight at around 9:00 pm we had some spectacular Aurora Borealis
directly overhead in Red Bank, NJ. Even though the sky was so cloud free
all major and minor constellations were clearly visible, there were pink patches
that moved through the sky. These patches resembled a very high haze,
which showed up on my night vision monocular. Some of these coalesced
into a huge ribbon of red, pink, and orange lights, which extended across the
sky from east to west. I took some pictures, but don't know if they will
come out.
I'll be keeping watch in case more ribbons occur. When calling friends,
our cordless phone snapped and crackled.
